💁‍♀️ Story Time:

The internet is a weird place. It’s real, while somehow not real at all. A place where friends and strangers alike go to learn, laugh, and escape everyday life. It’s a place that exists only because technology allows it, where you can order, look at, or find just about anything. It’s a place to share your stories, your lies, and your truths.

Just because you put something on the internet doesn’t mean it’s going to be seen—or the flipside happens and everyone sees it. That’s how I felt last week. I normally get high levels of engagement, but last week was astounding. I’d been tiptoeing around my own feelings for over 2 years, unable to articulate the pain and trauma I’d gone through for so long. I’d done so much healing around my past relationship, but there was still so much to uncover and for the first time in my life I wanted to write about it. So I honored that and was met with an outpour of messages.

As I hit post, a wave of anxiety washed over me. My emotions were held in suspense for what might happen next. I was nervous about how people might react and the judgment I was sure would follow. I braced for impact, braced for shame. But it never came. Instead I received an outpouring of beautiful, kind, thoughtful messages from friends, acquaintances, and strangers.

Women, sharing stories like mine, of married men trying to play a two sided game or worse, weak men pretending they were tough guys. How men had pursued them under the guise of false stories. It shocked me to learn how many married men have had relations with single women. The courting, the gifts, the romance. Each story the same—it was perfect, until it wasn’t.

The love from friends was overwhelming. Each one urging me to never hold this amount of pain and silence again. They reminded me true friends are there to support you in your loneliest hour. That we’re stronger together and the foundation of our relationship is based on trust, love, and non-judgment.

I got messages from my ex’s friends, disappointed and surprised, but not too surprised, at the truth of it all. This was the group I felt most intimidated by. What would people who know him think? Would they tell him? Then I realized I was still protecting him. So I said, ‘Fuck it’. If I’m gonna do it, I’m gonna do it. YOLO, let’s post a photo as I truly see him—as a fucking clown. (Someone pleaseeee send it to him, I dare you.)

I’m still so mad at myself for putting someone else’s well-being before my own. But that’s how I was raised, to worry about others before worrying about myself. Even as an adult I still get scolded for not putting others first. Well, not anymore!

The era of ‘be a good girl’ and ‘women must care for men’ is dying. And right along with that are telling stats of women choosing not to get married, choosing not to have kids, and how Having a Boyfriend is Embarrassing.

Women have evolved to a point where we don’t actually need men. We’re no longer property. We can (finally) own our own businesses, have a credit card, vote! Gone are the days of arranged marriages (like my Yiayia), dowries, and living like little baby factories—a time when women had to rely on someone else for our every want and need. We are no longer dependent.

The evolution of women is quite remarkable. The evolution of men? Well, I’m no expert, but it seems to be stunted. It feels like, as a whole, they haven’t quite caught up, but up until now they haven’t really had to. Which obviouslyyyyyyy shows you who the superior sex is ;).

To be clear, I’m not a man hater. I love men. I just want them, collectively, to do better.

And women—I LOVE women! I’m beyond blessed to be surrounded by so many incredible women. Each one of them lights up a different part of my heart. Thinking about it brings tears to my eyes, because although I wasn’t blessed with a big family, I was able to build one of strong, kind, unique, loving, resilient women who bring an overflow of joy to my life.

These are the women who have shaped me. Women who remind me of what strength and courage look like. Women who love me so deeply, despite all my flaws and continue to show up for me in unimaginable, supportive ways. Women who share their tears and their laughter, who would drop anything at a moment’s notice if I asked.

We are moving into the age of Aquarius, the rise of the matriarchy. More than ever, we need to love, support, and find comfort in each other. To create a space to share all facets of our lives and allow the depths of our souls to penetrate one another’s. To rise up together in unity. We’re on the brink of a new era—the fall of the patriarchy—and how lucky are we who chose to come to earth now for such a monumental event!
